Bell Buoy of Seaside is one of the last remaining canneries on the Oregon Coast. We can all of our seafood in-house and we are the only establishment in the state of Oregon authorized to clean and sell razor clams wholesale. Dan Smith has been the chief canner for 40 years and uses the original canning machine to can all Buoy products.
Lids are added to the top of each can using a Canco seamer designed in 1927 and manufactured shortly thereafter. (90 years old and still hums along at 40 cans a minute!) The cans are then cooked in our retort machine for 90 min to finish the process.
